What is Taller Maya?<\/strong><\/p>

Taller Maya is a collective Mexican design brand made of a creative multidisciplinary team that collaborates with artisan social enterprises established in the Yucatan Peninsula to promote the development of their communities.<\/p>

Where does Taller Maya come from?<\/strong><\/p>

Taller Maya was born in 2002 as a response to the initiative to recover traditional techniques of Mayan culture through a training program led by Fundacio\u0301n Haciendas del Mundo Maya (FHMM) that resulted in community self-management and business management projects.<\/p>

Taller Maya guarantees a fair business and work model according to the WFTO certification.<\/p>

What is your aim?<\/strong><\/p>

Its purpose is to generate a source of sustainable income for the Mayan rural communities of the Yucatan Peninsula through the creation and commercialization of artisanal pieces.<\/p>

Who do we collaborate with?<\/strong><\/p>

Today TM collaborates with 42 micro-enterprises in 32 communities in the Yucatan Peninsula. The communities work with artisanal techniques such as: hammock weaving, jipijapa weaving, sansevieria weaving, sewn henequen, pedal loom, backstrap loom, stone carving, horn carving wood carving, filigree, cross stitch embroidery and machine embroidery. They preserve the invaluable knowledge that has been passed down from generation to generation<\/p>

We have participated in great collaborations with different brands and organizations such as Christian Louboutin with the creation of around 1500 bags, in the development of the Vision and Tradition collection with Design Week Mexico and with the Noma restaurant for the pop up in Tulum.<\/p>

What techniques and materials does Taller Maya use?<\/strong><\/p>

In Taller Maya we work with artisanal techniques, which are a mixture of traditional methods with contemporary adaptations, starting from a vision of cultural rescue in harmony with the community. Taller Maya es una marca colectiva de disen\u0303o mexicano conformada por un equipo creativo multidisciplinario que colabora con empresas sociales artesanales establecidas en la Peni\u0301nsula de Yucata\u0301n para promover el desarrollo de sus comunidades.<\/p>

Taller Maya nace en 2002 como respuesta a la iniciativa de recuperacio\u0301n de te\u0301cnicas tradicionales de la cultura maya a trave\u0301s de un programa de capacitacio\u0301n liderado por Fundacio\u0301n Haciendas del Mundo Maya (FHMM) que resulto\u0301 en proyectos de autogestio\u0301n comunitaria y gestio\u0301n empresarial.<\/p>

Taller Maya garantiza condiciones laborales y comerciales equitativas a trave\u0301s de un modelo de comercio justo para las comunidades artesanales con las que colabora.<\/p>

\u00bfCon qui\u00e9nes colabora?<\/strong><\/p>

Hoy colaboramos con 42 microempresas en 32 comunidades de la Peni\u0301nsula de Yucata\u0301n que conocen y trabajan conservando el conocimiento de 14 te\u0301cnicas tradicionales como son el urdido de hamacas, henque\u0301n costurado, en telar de pedal y telar de cintura, tejido con jipi japa, tallado en piedra, tallado en madera, filigrana, bordado en punto de cruz, bordado a ma\u0301quina, telar Maya, tejido con sansevieria y tallado en cuerno.<\/p>

Hemos participado en grandes colaboraciones con diferentes marcas y organizaciones como Christian Louboutin con la creacio\u0301n de alrededor de 1500 bolsas, en el desarrollo de la coleccio\u0301n de Visio\u0301n y Tradicio\u0301n con Design Week Me\u0301xico y con el restaurante Noma para el pop up en Tulum.<\/p>
